… and if predictions for the future of nanotechnology are to be believed this has never been truer. Put simply, nanotechnology is the study of manipulating matter on an atomic and molecular scale. But this is far from merely an academic pastime. I visited a company who have removed the need for radioactive materials in identifying the spread of cancer by tracking the progress of tiny particles of what is essentially sugar-coated rust to the so-called sentinel lymph nodes. Already on trial at Guys Hospital in London, this could be one technology that’s on the wave of what some experts have dubbed the ‘next industrial revolution’.
